Raising Awareness

I wsa very honoured to have been given this opportunity to share my story through the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s Meet The Cancer Heroes instalments. My hope is that by sharing my story, I can help to raise awareness and support for the personalized care provided by Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and most especially The Magic Castle, because We All Need a Bit of Magic.

I was honoured to have been a part of REThink Breast Cancer’s production of The Sh*t People Say When You Have Cancer. This project was created as an opportunity for breast cancer survivors/warriors/fighters to share the various things said to them during diagnosis, treatment, and/or recovery by loved ones, friends, medical professionals, or even strangers; and to help educate and raise awareness. Our task as a participant was to read the dozens upon dozens of comments into the camera. The more I read the more I became incredibly overwhelmed. Some comments, though made with good intention, truly hurt to hear. No cancer is a good cancer; and for some, it really can’t be worse.
